We first found him over a year ago when we needed a Landlord’s Gas Safety Inspection and Certifcate for our home. He popped back a few weeks later when we asked him to fit a new boiler timer switch and we expected we might have to pay quite a bit for that but in the end it was a pleasant surprise when the bill came :). A year later we knew we wanted Chris to install a new boiler for us as he was fair, good value, respectful and a great person to have in the house given my elderly disabled mother’s situation. As always we got other quotations in first just as due diligence. We knew we wanted a new Potterton Gold boiler which we had seen on promotion. British Gas tried to sell us a Worcester. We expected the boiler changeover with a Powerflush and new anti-scale devices to be relatively routine job and had a figure of around £1,300- £1,500 in mind given that the boiler was on promotion for £750 inc. Vat. in the national press. British Gas quoted over £5,000 whilst pushing very expensive finance options and even quoting for unnecessary pipework  - the reason being the salesperson was not even a qualified Gas Safe engineer and therefore unable to verify whether the existing pipework was fit for purpose or not. In the time it took British Gas to try to sell an overpriced solution to me, Chris Gillam was able to install and commission a new boiler. It took about a day given the powerflush and a few extras I requested such as splitting the existing central into 2 zones with independent wireless programmable thermostatic controls which even my disabled elderly mother can use... Chris saved us a fortune and even advised us to buy the boiler elsewhere as we had found a good promotion deal. No need for finance in this case! Job well done and under budget.
